Antique Corkscrews
Antique Corkscrews
Manufactured in France, L’Esprit et le Vin corkscrews and wine accessories are some of the finest 18th and 19th century reproductions available today. While not antiques, they have all the charm of vintage corkscrews with the benefits of 20th century materials and craftsmanship.
Double-action Steel Corkscrew Reproduction
Patented by Sir Thomason in 1802, the double-action system enabled corks to be easily extracted by continuously turning the handle in the same direction. The aim was to reduce the physical effort required to remove a cork quickly and easily. The first helical shaft caused the worm to penetrate the cork. When it reached the bottom of the cork, the larger helical shaft was turned to pull out the cork. A ring of leather was placed at the base of the corkscrew to protect the neck of the bottle and adapts the device to different bottleneck sizes.
